PCSS Surveying Community On Ideas For New School Name

The Putnam County School System looking for public input on mascots, school colors and name for its new southwest K-8 school.

Communication Supervisor Hannah Davis said the school board’s naming subcommittee will use the feedback from citizens.

“This is very open,” Davis said. “We didn’t want to put anything out there. We wanted the community to have free range to have their opinions, thoughts and ideas. So, we didn’t want sway one way or another. So, it is an open gate.”

The survey launched Thursday can be found on the Putnam County Schools website and social medias. Submissions will be accepted until January 14th.

“Parkview Elementary School they are the home of the Pandas right now,” Davis said. “Royal blue, black and white are their colors. So that’s what currently exists and those students and staff will be going to the southwest school. But other than that, everybody has a free range.”

The school system will also look for student input. Davis said a separate survey for Parkview students moving to the new school will be sent out next week.

“We will look at that feedback in the coming weeks and start to deliberate and make a decision,” Davis said.

Davis said a public forum comes shortly after on January 27th 5:30 p.m. at Avery Trace Middle School. That will be an opportunity to share opinions on the new name.
