Heather Tinch has been named the new principal of Burks Elementary School.
The Putnam County School System made the announcement Monday that Tinch will take over for Kevin Maynard, who is retiring. Tinch has fourteen years of experience as a classroom teacher and has spent the last eight years as the Prescott South Middle School Assistant Principal.
“I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to lead Burks Elementary as their principal,” Tinch said in a release. “I was raised in a small community much like Monterey, so I am excited about this opportunity. I look forward to getting to know the students, faculty, families at Burks as well as the Monterey community more in the 2021-2022 school year.”
Prior to entering administration, Mrs. Tinch was a third and fifth grade teacher at Allardt Elementary School. She then taught social studies at Prescott South Middle School for 10 years.
Tinch held roles such as an internal coach for School Wide Positive Behavior Supports, chairperson for Social Studies, new teacher mentor and yearbook advisor. From 2013-2015, Mrs. Tinch was a State of Tennessee CORE Coach for social studies literacy and CORE Coach for literacy in middle grades.
She received her Bachelors degree in Elementary Education from Tennessee Technological University, as well as, a masters in Instructional Leadership and an ED.S. in Instructional Leadership.
