PCSO Investigating Human Remains Near Arnold Vaughn’s Home

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, TBI and the District Attorney’s Office are investigating human remains that were found at Anderson Road near Monterey on Tuesday.

At 11:00 a.m., deputies responded to a call from an Anderson Road resident that found human remains in the area. Sheriff Eddie Farris said it is a possibility that the body belongs to 57-year-old Arnold “Chigger” Vaughn.

“It was probably less than a half a mile from where Mr. Vaughn resided, where he lived,” Farris said. “So, it doesn’t mean anything. It certainly could be someone else. It could be someone from not even around here, but we’ve still not located him (Vaughn). So, we’ll certainly be making sure to make sure to eliminate him or to deem him as the victim.”

Farris said the remains were mostly bones with some clothing items that seemed to be exposed to the elements for some time. Farris said the evidence recovered has been sent to the state medical examiner’s office for identification.

“We protected that scene and worked that crime scene as always,” Farris said. “Every instant is worked that way and retrieved those bones and some of those clothing items that was out there. That took us quite some time yesterday to do that. (…) We took our time and pain staking techniques to do what we needed to do to preserve the evidence.”

Vaughn has been missing since July of last year. His last known whereabouts were at his Anderson Road home. Farris said Vaughn’s family has been notified of the possibility of the remains.

“We certainly want to preserve some of the vital information in case we have a criminal case at a later time,” Farris said.
