The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office partnering with other county agencies to apply for $2 million in grant funding for radio upgrades.
Sheriff Eddie Farris said the money would be used to purchase radio equipment compatible with a new state radio system.
“The state has picked Putnam County and the Upper Cumberland area to put this radio system in,” Farris said. “They are funding most of that bill which is several million dollars. However, we still have equipment to be purchased.”
Farris said the state will use a combination of existing towers while building two others for the system. Farris said it should be operational in about a year.
Farris said once installed, all local and state agencies will be able to communicate through the same system.
