Dirt moving at Monterey’s Meadow Creek Park this week as the town has begun construction on the park’s new pavilion.
Monterey Cultural Administrator Rafferty Cleary said the area needed leveling before pouring a gravel pad. Cleary said the town is also doing work around the area of the pavilion.
“We are also having to take down some trees,” Cleary said. “We are trying to make a view from that area down to the lake and in order to do that we need to remove some smaller trees so folks can be able to utilize that pavilion and have a pretty good look of the lake.”
Cleary said the pavilion will allow the park to host large gatherings. Cleary said the pavilion will have a gravel base and estimates the pavilion will be complete in the Spring of 2025.
“I know we’ve had several folks reach out to us about getting married out of the park and our issue is we don’t have anywhere in the park for that to occur, so this will hopefully alleviate that problem.”
Cleary said Monterey got a great deal from a local business to build the pavilion. Cleary said local businesses being invested in improving the park has helped keep the cost down.
“We’ve been really creative with how we’ve built the park out over the past couple of years,” Cleary said. “There’s not been a ton of taxpayer dollars that has gone into the park.”
Cleary said the pavilion is part of the Master Plan the town had put in place years ago. Cleary said the town will continue to look for grants and cost-effective ways to complete future projects at the park.
