Patient From Best Western Fire In Stable But Critical Condition At Vanderbilt

A woman is in critical but stable condition at Vanderbilt Hospital after being evacuated from a Best Western on South Jefferson Sunday night.

Cookeville Fire Chief Benton Young said she was first transported from the scene to Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He said the cause of the fire is currently being deemed an accident.

“It appears it started around the bed is the cause of origin we found,” Young said. “But other than that it’s hard to speculate. We find some lighters around there but we can only speculate what it would be.”

Young said the damage to the room was so severe they could only pinpoint the area of origin. He said the investigation was completed last night.

Young said they continue to pray for the victim of the fire and for her recovery.
