Pat Swallows To Be Inducted To TSSAA Hall Of Fame

Upper Cumberland baseball hero Pat Swallows is one of nine set to join the TSSAA Hall of Fame this spring.

Swallows is known for starting the baseball program at Livingston Academy in 1969 and coaching there for more than 30 years. Swallows also coached at Cookeville High School for two years. He said the Hall of Fame announcement came as a total surprise.

“It’s such an honor,” Swallows. “You know we don’t do these things and think you’re doing them for recognition or for honor, you do it because you love the game. And then these things that happen like this, it’s just amazing. It’s hard to put into words.”

Among Swallows’ accolades, he co-founded Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association in 1992, where he served as President and currently serves as Executive Director. Swallows said with a career in baseball expanding several decades, his proudest accomplishment is the positive influence he had on his players.

Swallows said it is impossible to achieve this kind of success on your own. He said he is thankful for his fellow coaches and directors for all of their support and dedication through the years.

“I look back at my assistant coaches and the work they put in and all of my directors that I have under me with the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association, and all the work they each do in their regions,” Swallows said. “And what they do to support me and the association is beyond words.”
