Part Time Job Opportunities For TTU Students

Nearly half of Tennessee Tech enrolled students work a part time job and attend classes in a given semester.

Career Development Director Russ Coughenour said there’s plenty of part time opportunities in Cookeville.

“I think what happened was, with the whole COVID-19 thing, I think people were trimming their staffs and then I think the economy started reopening a little bit,” Coughenour said. “I think some of these employers were caught a little short of staff and started ramping up.”

Coughenour said employers such as Academy Sports, Ficosa, and Pacesetters almost always have positions open for part time work.

The month of July is a low tide for employment, Coughenour said.

“Those companies that would seek employment from colleges have likely already done that, and the student is already employed in the summer,” Coughenour said. “Now it’s going to ramp back up. Employers will sense that students are returning to campus.”

The Career Development Center will host a part time job fair August 26 for students who need part time work. Coughenour said almost 20 employers offered positions during the Spring 2020 fair.

“Really about the time our part time job fair hits is about the time when the student knows they can or they won’t be able to hold down a part time job,” Coughenour said. “We want to make sure that the student stresses academics first.”

Coughenour said community employers can place positions on Tech’s Handshake job system, where students can submit their resumes at any time. Any employer wishing to be a part of the part time job fair can contact Tech’s Career Development Center.
