Part of Old Walton Road To Close Monday

Work will begin today for the new Cookeville Police station.

Public Works Director Greg Brown said Old Walton Road between Neal Street and South Maple Avenue will be closed until further notice.

“The initial phase will be installing utilities that will go to the proposed police department,” Brown said. “The developer is actually installing these utilities. The city is not actually doing the work.”

Brown said the city is constructing a new road to the property, which will intersect Old Walton Road and the police station property. That work will also begin this week.

The new police station will be constructed on property at Neal Street and Old Walton Road.

The city council voted to purchase the property late last year for $600,000
