School starting soon means parents need to check vaccine records.
Tennessee Department of Health regional nursing director Shanessa Taylor said students entering Tennessee schools for the first time are required to be vaccinated. Boosters are required for students in seventh grade and those entering college.
“One reason is you’ve got to protect yourself and you also need to protect others around you, diseases that vaccines prevent can be dangerous so it’s very important that we make sure we have all of our vaccines,” Taylor said.
Family physicians can give vaccines, and those who don’t have a family doctor, should call the county health department, Taylor said.
