Palace Theatre Showing Scary Movies

With October’s arrival, time to get in the Halloween spirit as Crossville’s Palace Theatre showcases horror movies over the next four weeks.

Palace Theatre Administrator Malena Fisher said the theatre will show classics such as “Frankenstein” and “Dracula.” Fisher said the city is showing the movies to fill a void left after the city’s movie theater closed last year.

“The movie industry is a tough one and it’s a tough way to make money,” Fisher said. “So we inevitably lose money on showing these but it is a community service and we do want to provide something not only for the families but for the retirees to come in and see things and it’s just really important to give back.”

Fisher said the classics have stood the test of time and many people have already given great feedback from the public. The movie schedule is posted on the Palace Theatre’s website and Facebook page.

Fisher said tickets are $5 but people have the option to get a concession stand ticket package for $10 which includes popcorn, candy, and a drink.

“It’s a good way to get out,” Fisher said. “It’s a very cheap form of entertainment and they are always popular and are always a good time for people to come out.”

Fisher said the classic movies have been a great attraction so far. Fisher said a lot of people in Crossville enjoy watching scary movies.

“Everyone loves a good scare,” Fisher said. “I think we’ve got the ones that love that, we have the ones that come because they love the classic cinematic draw of these older movies. It’s also being in the theatre. We are a historic theatre and there is just something to be said about watching it on a big screen with your popcorn in the dark. It’s just a nostalgic feel.”
