Tennessee Tech officials looking for the Upper Cumberland to Pack The House Wednesday night to celebrate Tech womens basketball.
Head coach Kim Rosamond has challenged at least 2,800 fans to come out and to pack the house during Tech’s home opener. That honors the 28th regular season or tournament championship won by the Tech Women. Athletic Director Mark Wilson said the 2023 OVC Championship banner will also be unveiled and hung in the rafters.
“I think most of the time when you win a championship you unveil that banner either at a big celebratory event or the first game of the next season, and it is the first regular season game,” Wilson said. “It’s an in-state rival against UT-Chattanooga. It really is just going to be a phenomenal night.”
The Tech women’s made it to the NCAA Tournament last season for the first time in 23 years. Wilson said the season meant a lot to everyone involved, including Rosamond, who won her first championship.
“It was just a historic season for Tennessee Tech women’s basketball,” Wilson said. “Looking forward to celebrating that. I think closing that chapter of history for Tennessee Tech and then propelling us into next year, and we’re looking to repeat as OVC champions.”
Wilson said the team is practically a whole new squad from last year’s championship winners.
“It’s a whole new team a lot of young women who were really good players that graduated and moved on to the next phase of their lives, so it’s a new team, but Coach Rosamond and her staff they just do a great job,” Wilson said. “We have a nucleus of student athletes at our back. We were picked to win the Ohio Valley Conference, so fans really need to come out and cheer loud and see this great team.”
Wednesday night’s game marks the home opener for the Golden Eagles. Game time is 6pm as Chattanooga visits. Ceremonies will be held pregame.
“We’ve got to celebrate last season as we kick off the 2023-24 season,” Wilson said “Looking forward to having a packed house to unveil the championship banner, really propel this team for the 23-24 season.”
