The Overton County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post has received two offers for its offices on West Henson Street.
The VFW decided to sale due to a lack of funding and participation. Commander Jerry Greer said the organization is waiting for a response to its counter offer before making a decision.
“We have got another group that is interested, but there is no consensus yet,” Greer said. “We have not come to any agreement on whether or not they will buy it. We are still kind of in limbo whether or not we have a buyer for the building.”
Greer said if a buyer is found, the entire membership would have to vote on the transaction. At this time, the membership does not have an alternate location to conduct meetings, but Greer said the local library or a restaurant could work.
“Commander is only a position that conducts the meetings,” Greer said. “The commander really does not have any more power than any other of the members in what the post does. Whenever we do something different, it is brought up to a meeting and voted on by the membership.”
Greer said so far, the 12 active members agree on selling the building. The post also owes about $9,000 to the Freemasonry that built a third floor above the VFW and repaired the roof during the construction.
When asked who were the potential buyers, Greer declined to comment.
