Since the first COVID vaccination in Overton County in late December, 604 total doses have been administered.
Megan Reeder is the Overton County Health Department Nursing Director. Reeder said during a press conference Friday that COVID vaccines are currently very limited.
“Demand for these vaccines is great,” Reeder said. “But, we are pleased to see the overwhelming interest in the vaccines. So, that is a good thing that Tennesseans are showing up to get these vaccines. So, we are working as quickly as possible to provide access.”
Reeder said the county currently has a waiting list with vaccine distribution dependent on the federal government. Reeder said the county usually receives a new shipment weekly.
“Tennessee is dependent on vaccine supply from the federal government,” Reeder said. “So, they are the ones that control the maximum amount of doses that the state of Tennessee can get. Then, Tennessee state individuals allocate those out across the counties per population.”
Among those vaccinated are over 100 school employees, according to Reeder. Livingston Regional Hospital CEO Tim McGill said his staff will break 100 vaccinations Monday. That is two thirds of front line staff, McGill said.
If you are on the wait list and miss a call for a vaccine, Reeder said your spot in line will not be changed. Reeder said to call the Overton County Health Department to reserve a spot for the next available vaccination.
Reeder said Tennessee currently ranks in the top 10 in vaccinations nationally.
