A 13-year-old Overton County student won a total of 137 ribbons at the just-completed Overton County Fair.
Abby Thompson said her family spent the four days leading up to the fair preparing all of her different entries. Thompson said she chose to compete in the categories based on which activities she has the most fun doing.
“Well, in open I did a lot of different vegetables, and then cooking and canning, and then flowers and crafts,” Thompson said. “And then I also do 4H, which is around all those same things.”
Thompson said she hopes to compete again in the future. But she said the year left she and her family tired. She said her winnings across all the categories totaled around $550.
“We try each year to do a little better, but we always say that if this is our last year then we’ll make it the best,” Thompson said.
Thompson said her favorite entry was a poster containing twelve separate paintings that won best in show. Thompson said she appreciates the fair board for giving her the opportunity to compete in all of these activities that she enjoys so much.
“Feels amazing, just to know that something I enjoy doing with my family gets a lot of success and it’s fun to just do,” Thompson said.
