Overton County students will not return to school until Oct. 26th with classes being held virtually the week after fall break.
Director of Schools Mark Winningham said the goal is to bring back the majority of students healthy, especially with COVID numbers on the rise.
“We have several schools who have seen an increase in numbers,” Winningham said. “And so with going on fall break and things like that, we thought a week of virtual would give students a chance to be able to return to school in that following week.”
Winningham said all seven schools will be deep cleaned and sanitized over the next two weeks. Rising county numbers also contributed to the decision.
“I am sure there are people who will be traveling over fall break and that is a definite concern that we might have people who come back positive,” Winningham said. “They might not know they are positive until that following week.”
Winningham said the week of virtual will allow those students who traveled time to see if any symptoms arise.
