Overton Rescue Largest Fundraiser Begins Monday

The Overton County Rescue Squad will begin its largest fundraiser of the year Monday.

Captain Steve Smith said those who donate get a free photo of the rescue squad, and some can schedule to get their pictures taken with squad members. Smith said a photography company goes door to door to reach as many people in the county as possible.

“Oh it helps big time,” Smith said. “[This fundraiser] is one we look forward to every year because it brings in and it helps us tremendously on the fundraising money side of it. It helps tremendously.”

Smith said the squad raised over $10,000 last year. The fundraiser is typically two to three weeks.

The rescue squad usually has two or three other small fundraisers throughout the year. The money raised goes to funding new equipment, Smith said.

“We’re in need of some more vehicles,” Smith said. “The ones we got is getting up in age and getting wore out. We’re looking at some new equipment, maybe a new vehicle or two.”
