The Overton County Back to School Bash set for Thursday to allow families to get familiar with local schools and teachers.
Pre-K-5 Curriculum Supervisor Rebekah Hughes said each school will be having its own event where families can receive free school supplies and meet the faculty. Hughes said this event also gives parents the chance to ask any questions they may have about the upcoming school year.
“It’s just important so the community members can get a chance to get the feel of the school and meet the employees there, meet their teachers,” Hughes said. “Also it’s a great time for those registration questions that come, they can get those answers. If they need any documents, they can get all of that taken care of that night.”
Hughes said the events will take place from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Hughes said she hopes that families come out of the event feeling at ease about the school year.
“Especially for those students just starting school or switching schools, they’ll get a chance to ask questions, you know, look around, and just kind of have a better feeling when they start school than just coming in on that first day,” Hughes said.
Hughes said they want to use the event help their local families and students in any way possible whether that is with information, school supplies, or anything else they can do.
“Anytime we can give away things like school supplies that will help out, we try to do that,” Hughes said. “You know, times are hard right now, so anything we can do to help out, we do – we just want to do that for our community.”
Hughes said parents with kindergarten and pre-k students can also get more information at the bash about their children’s upcoming “phase-in days.”
“They can get their phase-in days, which are days that the kindergarten students and pre-k students will come,” Hughes said. “They don’t start every day, we kind of break that down over a ten-day period.”
