Overton Opioid Programs Receive Funding

Four separate Overton County rehab and addiction support organizations will receive additional funding to support their efforts.

County Commissioner Donna Savage said the funding had been approved, but the money could not be given out until commissioners approved the county’s full budget. Savage said drug addiction is a big issue in Overton County and neighboring areas.

“It’s worth every dollar of it,” Savage said. “Every dollar to help them get out of the addiction. People are in pain and drugs (are) not the answer, but that’s what they turn to. And this gives them an opportunity to come out of that.”

Hope Center Ministries, Celebrate Recovery, the Court Appointed Special Advocate Program, and the Livingston Housing Authority will receive additional funding. Savage said each organization will have to sign an agreement dictating how the money will be used before they can receive it.

Savage said the housing authority will use its funding to build homes for people coming out of drug court to aid in the transition out of addiction and help them get their children back.

“Hope Center Ministries I think is going to add on some so they can take more in their ministry and help more drug addiction,” Savage said. “Celebrate Recovery is for after you’ve went through the program and that’s to come and just keep you on the right track.”

Savage said the Court Appointed Special Advocate Program will use its funding to expand its services and better support children that have been affected by drug addiction.

The Housing Authority received $175,000. Hope Center Ministries received $60,000. Celebrate Recovery’s grant amount $21,540. Court Appointed Special Advocate received $10,000.
