Overton Fair Hosting Hay Bale Decorating Contest

If you have a hay bale to spare, the Overton County Fair may have a use for yours.

The fair group hosting its first-ever hay bale decorating contest. Fair Associate Lacey Pennington said you have until July 15th to submit a bale that will be displayed at the Overton County Fair.

“Our goal with this contest is to just get local businesses and organizations together to just get them involved in the fair,” Pennington said. “It could be a round bale, a square bale or a combination of both.”

Pennington said decorations can coordinate along with your business, follow the “A Treasure Chest of the County’s Best” fair theme or be a unique idea. Pennington said bales will be judged with awards for the best decorations.

“This has been a big thing in lots of other counties to get people involved,” Pennington said. “Some have personal hay bales, some do the businesses. It’s been a big thing. It seems like fun and something extra that we can add.”

Pennington said the contest serves as an opportunity for some free promotion during the fair. Pennington said the bales will be scattered across the fairgrounds starting July 21st.

“We’ve had more interest than I thought, so I’m really excited to see what everybody comes up with,” Pennington said.

Parties will be responsible in transporting their decorated hay bale to and from the fairgrounds. Pennington said you can message your email to the Overton County Fair Facebook page for an application.
