Overton Fair Board Seeking Students To Join Junior Board

The Overton County Fair Board accepting applications for its junior fair board.

Board member Sonia McCowan said Overton students grade 7 through 12 can apply.

“It helps them become more aware of working with the public,” McCowan said. “Seeing what all it takes to put on an event or give back to their community. It helps some of them to come out of their shell.”

McCowan said the youth board is an essential part of the fair’s operations. McCowan said the members help facilitate entries for contests, host events during the fair as well as throughout the year.

“After a year or two on the board, you wouldn’t believe it is the same child,” McCowan said. “They speak up, have ideas, they take part in a lot of the stuff and gives them responsibility as if they had a job.”

McCowan said applications can be found at your student’s school or at the central office until February 28th. McCowan said the board looks to select about 25-30 students this year. McCowan said interest in agriculture and public service make for a good candidate.
