Overton Exploring Process To Make Updates To Rickman Convenience Center

Overton County starting the process to make improvements to its Rickman Convenience Center.

Commission Chair Darwin Clark said money has been made available from TDEC to change the layout for drop-off. However, he said the county will require approval before any updates can be made.

“For example in Rickman, we’ve got a car that you drive up on like without a top where you don’t have to throw your trash over the bin you just stand up and throw it in,” Clark said. “Well, we’re afraid that people are getting out and they trip and they fall off that high ramp. So we’re going to ask TDEC for permission to maybe get a new entrance.”

Clark said the county is also exploring the next steps for a new convenience center site in the Dry Hollow area. He said County Executive Steven Barlow and a representative will go out and try and find a suitable location.

Clark said because it is a new site, it will take time before it comes to fruition. He said a Dry Hollow site will give more access to the people in the county to dispose of their waste without having to drive all the way to Rickman.

“It’s hard to find a site where people will allow trash to come to the area,” Clark said. “It would be a brand new site, so TDEC will have a representative decide if it is feasible.”

Clark said the next step for both of these projects will be to get TDEC approval. He said then they will go and see what kind of construction is needed both at the Rickman site and to do a Dry Hollow Site.
