Overton County commissioners approved W&O Construction’s bid Monday to construct their new county services building.
County Executive Ben Danner said he’s glad the project is moving forward as the county anticipates its first new building in 150 years.
“Millard Oakley gave us nearly $2.1 million to go towards this project, so if it hadn’t been for him, we’d have never got started on this so we appreciate him,” Danner said. “I think it’s going to be a really nice building, easy to get to, and handicap accessible. Everyone in this county’s going to be proud of it, I think. I’m just glad we’re ready to get started. It’s been in the works for the last couple years.”
Danner said he anticipates construction starting sometime later this month.
“The county attorney’s got the contract right now, so we should have that ready to sign this week. I’m sure W&O’s ready to go and I say we are too, so I’d say within the next week or two,” Danner said. “We’re just looking forward to it, and it’s here right in the middle of the town where everyone can see what’s happening. So I guess that’ll be the talk for a little while here in the county.”
W&O was the only firm to bid the project under the county’s nearly $5.5 million budget at approximately $4.5 million.
