Overton County Commission will work to implement a new cell phone policy for county employees.
County Executive Steven Barlow said the previous policy was outdated and not being followed. He said every employee was supposed to get $30 toward their bills, and it could only be used for work purposes.
“Just to keep ourselves from being auditing we just said abolish it, set down, put out heads together,” Barlow said. “We’re actually updating a lot of policies right now. So this was something one of those things that was old, outdated, not being used. So we wanted to get it off the table before we get in trouble for it.”
Barlow said they will work to implement new policies in the coming weeks that will be more updated and more easily followed. He said a new policy will also be more inclusive for smartphone use.
Barlow said there is no set timeline for getting the new policy in place.
