The Overton County Commission has approved a plan on how they will proceed in a lawsuit filed against the county.
The lawsuit stems from the 2021 death of Jonathan Mark Hargis, who passed away while in the custody of the Overton County Sheriffs Department. An autopsy determined the cause of death was asphyxiation.
The suit alleges Overton County did not preserve footage from an alternate camera angle that documented the events leading up to Hargis’ death.
Specifics of what the commission approved were not released.
