Overton Co. Schools Looking For More Bus Drivers

The Overton County School System is accepting applications for bus drivers to fill a district shortage.

Interim Director Of Schools Donnie Holman said the school system has been utilizing substitute drivers to complete the 31 routes.

“We have at least three positions,” Holman said. “Three bus drivers that we have been subbing more or less all year. If we can at least find three more bus drivers that would be a great help to the county.”

Holman said similarly to teacher substitutes, replacing drivers has been an ongoing challenge this school year. Holman said the school system is looking for safe, qualified drivers that care about a student’s behavior and education.

“Bus drivers are very very important to the school system, because they are the first person that a child sees that is affiliated with the school system,” Holman said. “We want someone that has a smiling face and is very concerned of student safety.”

Shifts run for a few hours before and after school. Holman said if interested to contact the Overton County Board of Education.

“You must be 25-years-old, and you need a class D license,” Holman said. “That is with a T and S endorsement on it. The T stands for passenger. The S for school bus. Anyone interested would also need to get a background check and a drug test. (…) They also need a CDL physical.”
