Overton Changing Road Closure Procedures To Follow State Rules

Overton County has updated its process for closing county roads.

The county was notified by CTAS that their procedure of only going through the road committee needed to change since the county has a planning commission. Highway Superintendent James Norrod said the new process will be simple and legal.

“What we’ll be doing is going to the regional planning commission, make the request,” Norrod said. “Then notify the property owners and then go on to the county legislative body and let them vote on it.”

Norrod said the county had two options for changing procedure, selecting the simplest method.

“Someone who wants to open or close a road goes to a commissioner of that district,” Norrod said. “Requests it and this commissioner picks out two citizens that they have not discussed this with before and then they take it to the county legislative body.”
