The Overton County Budget Committee has started work on forming its new spending plan for the upcoming new fiscal year.
Chair Greg Nivens said the committee began this week by hearing requests from local non-profits.

Nivens said non-profit donation requests will continue Tuesday. After that, department head requests begin on March 20th and then continue throughout April.
Nivens said he expects several challenges when considering needs versus wants. Nivens said the committee will navigate employee raises, fuel costs and jail operations all while trying to avoid a tax increase.
