Overton BOE New Chairman Dissolved Committees

Jarman Hicks is the new chairman of the Overton County Board of Education.

Hicks has been on the board for four years. Hicks said he wants the committees inside the board of education to be dissolved.

“A lot of our committees that we have developed over the years,” Hicks said. “A lot of those duties fall under the director of schools. They are in the director’s contract, and they are up to the director to present to the board for approval.”

Hicks said the policy, budgeting and building committees will no longer exist. Board member Mike Hayes will continue to be the contact for building updates while Director of Schools Mark Winningham will bring policy and budget changes to the board for approval.

The board unanimously voted for Hicks to take over in Tuesday’s meeting. Hicks replaces Howard Miller. Mike Gilpatrick was voted in as the new Vice Chairman, and Mitchell Stonecipher is now the TLN Representative.
