Overton BOE Increases Pay For Different Substitutes And Assistants

Pay increases for several Overton County School employees were unanimously approved by the Board of Education Tuesday.

Education Assistants, food service substitutes, certified and non-certified substitutes and bus drivers substitutes will benefit. Board Member William Abston said the pay change would be effective immediately.

“Typically in the past what we have done is we waited until the 31st when our budget rolled over and started that,” Abston said. “Considering that they’ve been doing it, we need to start it now instead of the next budgeting period.”

Education assistants and food service substitutes will be paid $10 an hour. Non-certified subs get paid $75 a day, certified subs $95 a day and bus subs get $65 a day.

The need for the pay increases were recognized during the school board’s September work session.
