Overton BOE Approves Cleaning Machines; One-Time Bonuses For Food Services

Overton County Food Service employees will receive bonuses for working extra during the summer.

The Board of Education Tuesday approved splitting a $15,500 Food Services surplus for one-time bonuses. Chairman Jarman Hicks said this bonus is for employees who worked in June and July.

“They worked through the summer feeding thousands of meals to Overton County,” Hicks said. “Not only students, but children that aren’t students yet. While we had the extra money, this surplus, it was divided out evenly among those employees.”

Hicks said cafeteria managers will receive a $500 one-time bonus, and employees $400. He said these Food Service employees do not work year round.

Board members additionally approved the purchase of eight new cleaning machines ticketed at $4,195 a piece. Hicks said each school building will be issued a machine.

“That’s a great need right now,” Hicks said. “It saves a lot of time and it helps keep our schools, hopefully, from having so many exposures.”

The machines emit a disinfecting mist that cuts cleaning time in half. Hicks said they could arrive as early as Friday.
