Habitat for Humanity’s Lunch on the Lawn might be cancelled, but the need for community support is still going on.
From September 12th until the 19th the Cumberland County ReStore is offering the bowls usually sold during Lunch on the Lawn. Development Director Vanessa Petty said their needs increase during a time like the pandemic.
“You have the option to support us in other ways, so we want people to know that even though we’re not having this event there’s still very much a need, the need for housing is still there that doesn’t change because of what’s going on if anything it just makes it worse,” Petty said.
The $15 dollar bowl donations are not the only way you can help though. You can also donate towards a home’s front door, kitchen sink and low-flow toilets.
The COVID-19 pandemic does not just hurt donations, it also affects their operations. “We rely heavily on our volunteers and right now we don’t have a lot of volunteers that are able to come in because of what’s going on,” Petty said.
If you are uncomfortable with the idea of going out to help during the COVID-19 pandemic, there are other options. “We are still running our truck to donate and pick up items in the community, we still want people to do that and also if people are not comfortable leaving their homes they can also donate online,” Petty said.
