Tennessee Senator Paul Bailey hosted a telephone town hall meeting Thursday answering constituents questions over education, unemployment, small business aid and reopening.
Bailey was asked how Tennessee is preparing for a possible second wave once the state reopens. Bailey said there could be a possible second outbreak, but the state is prepared.
“We have those in place today,” Bailey said. “Our medical systems are in place today to deal with any type of an outbreak that could reemerge with the reopening of Tennessee.”
Hair salons were one of the many businesses asked about during the meeting. Bailey said reopening recommendations are being reviewed by the state.
“Under the department of commerce and insurance is where hair salons and tattoo parlors lie,” Bailey said. “They are currently making guidelines for you to be able to reopen.”
Seven Thousand people listened in to the town hall meeting. During the meeting, a non scientific survey was conducted. 68% of listeners who participated were more worried about the economical impact of the virus rather than the health impact.
“I know y’all have been working hard and these are unprecedented times,” Bailey said. “A lot of Tennesseans are hurting out there. We hear you and are working as fast as we can.”
Bailey was joined by White County School Director Kurt Dronebarger, Executive Director of Upper Cumberland Development District Mark Farley, Director of Small Business Development Center Tyler Asher.
