Over 1,000 Putnam Homes To Receive Broadband Access

One thousand, one hundred and forty-five Putnam County households will be receiving access to broadband connectivity.

The project is possible through Charter Communications with $92 million earmarked to over 79,000 Tennessee locations. State Senator Paul Bailey said this is a great step in providing broadband for rural communities.

“There has never been a more important time to improve connectivity than now,” Bailey said. “Broadband is not only critical to create high quality jobs for our citizens, it is needed in homes for education, telemedicine, farming and other needs that improve the quality of life for families.  I am very excited that these homes will be connected and am looking forward to seeing many more new locations added in our district in the near future.”

According to Charter Communications, this project is a part of the launch of a multiyear, multi billion-dollar broadband build out initiative to deliver gigabit high-speed internet to more than 1 million unserved customer locations.

The funds come from the Rural Digital Opportunity Fund (RDOF) Phase 1 auction. Charter expects to invest approximately $5 billion to support its initiative, which is offset by $1.2 billion in support won from the RDOF auction
