Livingston contracting with an outside firm to conduct a pay and benefits study for city employees.
MTAS recommended updating the city’s pay scale during an October work session. Mayor Curtis Hayes said the current pay scale is obsolete.
“I think this is a step to get us back up to where we should, and to be quite frank, to see just exactly where we are when comparing with other communities, other towns and other counties,” Hayes said.
Hayes said the company will form recommendations for Aldermen to consider early next year. Hayes said employees leaving for more money in the private sector has been an issue.
“I think it’s fair, and I think the board did as well by listening to MTAS to get someone in here that can help us and lead us,” Hayes said. “At the end of the day, we will be the ones that make a decision.”
The company HR Solutions by Design LLC will lead the work. Owner Cindy Beresh-Bryant said the $9,900 price tag will pay for one-year, three-year and five-year plans to adjust the scale over time.
Beresh-Bryant said she will review job descriptions, create a strategy to meet the city’s goal and then provide data so the board can make a decision.
