An online threat made against the Cumberland County Schools Thursday night came from an out-of-state juvenile.
Director of Schools Billy Stepp said multiple agencies investigated the threat which did not mention a specific school. The threat began with an out-of-state juvenile using a picture of a current Cumberland County Schools student.
“(The student) was in no way involved with the threatening statements,” Stepp said.
Law enforcement in the juvenile’s home state and county are taking appropriate action, Stepp said. Members of the public reported the threats to local law enforcement.
Stepp said even though the threat is not deemed credible, all school resource officers have been notified and extra security measures are being implemented. Friday marks the return to school for the first time in Cumberland County since the snow and ice of last week.
“As always, safety is our number 1 priority,” Stepp said.
