Ongoing Scam Investigations; “Will Not Be Tolerated”

Putnam County Law enforcement agencies in connection with the TBI are investigating several scams in the aftermath of last week’s tornado.

“Law enforcement will not tolerate the scams and we are monitoring that very heavy,” Sheriff Eddie Farris said.

Farris said multiple agencies have “boots on the ground” trying to protect the families. In addition, law enforcement monitors Facebook, Twitter and other social media sites where scams could originate. Farris said two major scams have shown up in recent days.

“We would ask all the families and the victims to please be careful,” Farris said. “And the citizens of the county who want to help just to make sure those they are giving to are vetted.”
