One Dead After Thursday Morning Accident Near Putnam’s Hillwood Street

One person has died as a result of a Thursday morning Highway 70 accident near Hillwood Street in rural Putnam County.

27-year-old Johnny Buckner Howard Jr. of Stilwell, Oklahoma was driving a 2018 Peterbilt and pulling a cattle trailer while negotiating a left curve. Howard’s vehicle crossed the center line where a passenger-side tire blew.

The vehicle then went off the roadway, rolled over, struck a utility pole, struck a guardrail, and came to final rest on the right side of the roadway.

Howard died as a result of his injuries. His passenger, 21-year-old Katie Nicole Walters of Wetumka, Oklahoma was transported to Cookeville Regional for her injuries.

According to Highway Patrol, Crossville Highway is expected to remain closed until about 5:30 p.m.
