The deadline to apply for the Jackson County Director of Schools position has ended.
There’s a lack of interest for the position, according to school board chairman Mark Brown.
“At the time we only had one applicant that had turned in,” Brown said. “We’ve set up to do an interview at the next school board meeting.”
That meeting set for April 24th at 6:00 p.m. The person selected to be director of schools will replace Joe Barlow who retired last month. Brown says that person will have big shoes to fill.
“Mr. Barlow had been there for right at 15-years. He did a great job.” Barlow said. “We’re looking for somebody to lead our county, our school system, and our kids. Somebody to come up with all the programs and guidelines to keep us appropriate with the state and federal level and of course to learn our kids and be a good leader and influence to all.
Brown said it’s also important that the person can manage the budget.
With only one applicant for the position, Brown said there could be a possibility that the board decides to open the application period back up.
“Anything is possible, it’s whatever the board chooses to do,” He said.
