Oldham Receives 3.5 Percent Raise

The Tech Board Of Trustees approved President Phil Oldham’s raise for this year, amidst a positive evaluation.

Vice Chair Rhedona Rose led the evaluation process. Rose said based on other raises offered at Tech this year, she thought a 3.5 percent raise made sense, though she admitted Oldham deserved much more.

“I know a pat on the back of, ‘Man, we’re proud of you. What a great job’ doesn’t do as well as for everything else, but he’s a fantastic President,” Rose said. “I wish it could be more, but I think with the economy and where we are right now, 3.5 percent would be my motion.”

The Trustees and the cabinet provided feedback on Oldham’s performance. Faculty surveys were also reviewed.

“If money were no option, we could give this President exactly the percentage raise that I think he deserves,” Rose said. “It would be well over 20 percent because I just think we are so fortunate to have him, and he is doing a fantastic job.”

Rose said the response rate on the review was excellent.

“Just very proud of President Odom and the responses that came back,” Rose said. “He and I had a great discussion about it, some of the areas where I identified that he might need to be aware of, as well as the accolades of the areas where folks feel really good about what he’s doing.”

Oldham said he appreciated the report and thought it was well done.
