October is Cyber Security Month. Eric Brown serves as assistant director of Cyber Security Education, Research and Outreach at Tennessee Tech.
Brown said Cyber Security is important for everyone, not just the geeks in your family.
“To make them a little more aware of safeguards and steps they should take to safely conduct business as they go through this cyber connected, transaction environment we live in,” Brown said.
Cyber security affects everyone’s lives, personal and professional. High-profile hacking incidents have left bank accounts, personal information and even photos vulnerable.
“So the Department of Homeland Security has an online program called Stop, Think, Connect, and I mean this site is relevant 12 months out of the year, not just simply one,” Brown said.
Brown also recommends regularly updating your computer, phone and any other device you use.
