North Washington Work Expected To Last Three Months

Construction work will continue along Cookeville’s North Washington Avenue for at least the next three months..

That according to Carry Aitken, who is the operations superintendent for the Department of Water Quality Control.

“The work being completed is in preparation for a TDOT paving project,” Aitken said. “The city is replacing 50 water services between Spring Street and Loweland Avenue along North Washington Avenue.”

Aitken said drivers will need to use caution in the area as there will be a diversion of traffic while crews are on site.

“We are hoping to not have any lane closures, just maybe merging from the left to the right,” Aitken said. “Alos, we are going to backfill with a flowable fill material that takes three days to cure, therefore, we will have steel plates in the road that will be held in place with asphalt.”

Aitken said drivers will experience some bumps as they drive across the steel plates.
