There’s no long-term plans for the recently closed Central View Elementary School, but Director of Schools Kurt Dronebarger said he’s currently working on a short-term plan.
Dronebarger said that plan would allow the Tennessee Highway Patrol to use the building.
“We want to make that a substation so officers can stop in and use the restroom or maybe write their reports,” Dronebarger said. “Immediately we don’t have any long-term plans for the building.”
The board of education voted earlier this month to close Central View Elementary. Dronebarger said closing the school would save some $1.2 million and fund school safety projects and SROs at each school.
All faculty have been placed at other schools and students will be sent to other schools nearby.
Dronebarger said in the meantime the school system will work to maintain the building.
“We are open for suggestions on what to do with the building,” Dronebarger said. “We’ve talked about a possible community center and maybe opening it to another business or group to lease the facility from us.”
