No Injuries In Dodson Branch House Fire

A Thursday morning fire damaged a home at 5830 Dodson Branch Road.

Putnam County Fire Department Assistant Chief Wayne Globerger said crews arrived to find heavy fire coming through the roof.

“We made an exterior attack initially and then went interior,” Globerger said. “Once we get everything cleaned up we will do an investigation. Not sure, because of the weather, if it was lightning or electrical,”

Globerger said the second floor is a total loss with water damage on the first floor and basement.

The owner of the residence, Joyce Ann Bohannan, was on Miller Avenue dog-sitting for her son at the time of the fire.

“I don’t know what happened. They called me this morning a little after 7 and told me my house was on fire,” Bohannan said.

A cat belonging to Bohannan remains missing.

“There was some openings so we’re hoping the cat got out on its own,” Globerger said. “Early in the fire the ceiling came down on the whole first floor so we aren’t sure if the cat escaped or if it’s under there.”

About 25 firefighters responded to the scene along with six pieces of apparatus.

The cause of the fire continues to be investigated.
