Cookeville Police had to play cowboy Thursday afternoon when a bull escaped from the Putnam County Stockyards.
Major Carl Sells said it happens from time to time. The bull wandered about the Jefferson Avenue/Veterans Drive area before stopping in a parking lot.
“We called for a state certified veterinarian along with the animal control officer from the sheriff’s department to help us sedate the bull and get it back to where it belongs,” Sells said.
Sells said state laws changed a few years ago, and only state-certified veterinarians can administer tranquilizers. The veterinarian was local, Sells said.
