Sparta aims for a late September completion date for a new set of gateway monuments.
City Administrator Brad Hennessee said the welcome signs along Highway 111 at the northern and southern city limits will be a good fit for the city.
“The basic shape of the sign is there,” Hennessee said. “The structure is complete. They’ve been erected, core poured and then the next step for us is to have the stonemason do the granite work.”
Hennessee said the signs will read, “Welcome to Sparta Tennessee. Bluegrass USA,” in a black, matte metal. Hennessee said a high-end granite makes up the monument, so it should stand for many years to come.
T-DOT first approved the project in June of last year.
