New Principals Hired For Cane Creek, Sycamore

Putnam County’s Cane Creek Elementary School and Sycamore Elementary have new principals.

Kathy Kaughan will replace the recently retired Rhonda Mahan at Cane Creek Elementary School and Deborah Robbins will replace the retired Tracy Nabors at Sycamore Elementary School. Director of Schools Corby King made the announcement Friday.

Robbins has served at the school as a teacher and assistant principal since 2012. Koughan has been with Putnam County Schools since 2005 and served as Park View Elementary School’s assistant principal last year.

Koughan spent 16 years teaching kindergarten and RTI at Cane Creek before beginning a two-year stint as Jere Whitson Elementary School Assistant Principal. Koughan said it is a dream come true to return home to Cane Creek Elementary School and help propel the school to increased student growth and achievement.

Robbins, a Putnam County native, said she is deeply honored to accept the position, having been a member of the Sycamore community for 11 years. She said she wants to continue the great work Nabors has done and build on the vibrant community culture and foundation of excellence. Robbins graduated from Tennessee Tech in 1996 after attending Monterey High School.

King said both hires have an unquestionable commitment to student well-being and academic success.
