A new crowd-sourced, pilot initiative that would compile the best views of the region has launched in four counties.
Scenic Tennessee’s newest project is called Tennessee Vistas. President Marge Davis said residents of Jackson, Overton, Putnam and White County will help create a database for others to view.
“One of our founding members was Mack Prichard who died a couple of years ago during the pandemic,” Davis said. “Recently at Cummins Falls they named the Visitor Center there for him. He loved the Upper Cumberland, and we considered at a tribute to him.”
Davis said people are asked to submit photos online of the best vistas in the four county area. Davis said once the pilot ends on October 3rd, a public review will occur where submissions will be ranked. Davis said the best pictures will then be used to form a register and an interactive map of the best scenic views.
“We consider the Upper Cumberland one of if not the most beautiful regions in the state,” Davis said. “So that is another reason why we selected these counties.”
Davis said submissions do not have to focus just on nature. Davis said staples in communities such as Downtown Cookeville or Granville also count. Davis said the overall goal is to combine scenic views with economic development by encouraging people to visit the locations.
