New N. Cedar Parking Lot Open In Downtown Cookeville

Cookeville set to open new parking on North Cedar Avenue Friday.

City Manager James Mills said the parking lot is the site of the old mini-storage units that the city acquired a few years ago.

“There’s a net gain of many more parking spaces so it should be a positive for the downtown,” Mills said. “We really want to encourage this to be more of a pedestrian area, and we think this goes a long way toward that.”

Mills said there had been several different delays in getting the lot ready to open. He said it had taken over a month just to get paint to paint the parking spots. Mills said that was completed Thursday.

Mills said the parking lot will be joined by even more parking spaces with the newly purchased lot by Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He said with the two lots, it is a net gain of more than 50 parking spots for people to use while visiting the downtown area.
