COVID has claimed Jackson County’s first chance to host a large music festival.
The Dailey and Vincent Fall Fest has been cancelled due to COVID-19. Chamber of Commerce Director Jordan Hunter said it was going to be a two day event with two headliners per night.
“It was going to be quite a big festival with a lot of money riding on it,” Hunter said. “We wanted to make sure that we’re making the smart decision at the chamber and for our investors to make sure that we’re not going to lose. It was tough [to cancel] because we put in a years worth of work, but I think long term it’s going to be that much better.”
Hunter said the chamber decided to put this festival together last year to increase tourism in Jackson County. Over 2,600 people were expected to attend the festival at the Jackson County Airport. He said the incoming revenue could have been a huge help to the local and regional economy.
“If there’s 2,600 people and half of them are traveling from outside the region, you’re going to have to have a lot of places to stay. So Cookeville, Smith County, Celina-all these places are really going to get the overflow, and that’s really what our goal is.”
The festival is named in honor of two Grand Ole Opry singers: Gainesboro native Jamie Dailey and Smithville native Darren Vincent. Both musicians were scheduled to play at the fall festival.
The Dailey and Vincent Fall Fest has been rescheduled for October 2021.
